THE BATAWA - CARLETON INITIATIVE
Carleton University and the Batawa Development Corporation have formed aunique partnership that will help the Ontario village create a modelsustainable community for the world. The project is a living laboratory,giving students an invaluable opportunity to help solve real-world challengesand take the classroom to the community.
Twenty-seven architectural and industrial design students spent the summerdeveloping new designs and plans for the old shoe factory and surroundingvillage.More projects are planned for the Fall of 2009, including research onnew housing structures.
It is expected that students from other disciplines, such as science, business,engineering and public policy, will eventually be involved.
