Remembering Peter Suijker It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of Peter Suijker. Peter and his wife Henny have been very active members of the Church in Batawa and Frankford, and well known throughout the community. Peter presented the Father Dunphy award each year at the Sacred Heart Graduation Ceremony and was an avid chess player attending each week with Seniors Unlimited. Peter always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. His funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 17 at 11:00am in Batawa. http://bit.ly/2vy1JDS

Remembering Victor Pittaluga It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of Victor Pittaluga. A Long-time resident of Batawa, Victor worked as a Tool & Die Maker for Bata Footwear. Victor served as a volunteer firefighter for Sidney Township/Quinte West for many years. He contributed greatly to the community being a friend to many and helped with the development of Batawa Ski Hill. He provided his expertise in many areas in the village. He was always lending a helping hand in the community

We're Hiring Summer Students! Batawa Development Corp. is hiring two students for Stewardship Internships this summer. This is a paid position for students returning to full-time studies this fall. The Stewardship Intern will work in an 800 acre provincially significant ANSI to preserve and maintain that resource. Similarly, working in over 300 acres of mixed and varied woodlots with a trained supervisor, the Stewardship Intern will be provided hands-on experience with various species and eco-systems, developing career opportunities and experience to drive motivation and continued pursuit of career plans. Let's Keep the Wildlife Wild Spring is in the air and the animals can feel it too! It has been a cold and snowy winter, but warmth is on its way. The BDC wants to express our appreciation and thanks to all the residents in the village that took care over the winter months to secure their property, helping curb the growth of the local wild animal population.  To continue our efforts, we encourage all residents to practice extra vigilance in helping to control the population of raccoons, coyotes and feral cats in the area by not feeding the wildlife as the birthing season approaches.
