Seniorís Expo In Batawa November 3rd The Batawa Senior’s Expo is returning for its fourth year, even bigger and better than before. On Friday November 3rd, from 9am-3pm at the Batawa Community Centre, representatives from over 50 local businesses and organizations will provide information and resources to help seniors stay active, be healthy and have fun.† The wide range of vendors includes: Service Clubs, Recreation, Education, Travel & Tourism, Health, Fitness, Finance, Retirement, Long Term Care, Home Care, Safety, and more. Visitors will also be able to receive flu and shingles shots from the Public Health Unit.

Batawa Trails Project The staff at the Ski Hill are very excited about our Canada 150 trails project. There are plans for both new trails and improvements to some existing trails in Batawa.† Construction will begin soon on approximately seven kilometres of trails that will be geared towards hikers and cyclists of all ages and abilities.† We are looking for community volunteers to become part of the project.† We would like to get feedback from you, Batawa Residents, about the layout and features we have planned. We are also looking for volunteers to help with the construction and maintenance of the trail system.

Exciting improvements underway at Batawa Ski Hill Thanks to the generosity of the Federal Government and the continued enthusiasm and support of our local community, the planning stages of the renovation of the ski chalet and select Batawa trails are well under way.† We have engaged David Agro, a renowned architect and environmentalist, to oversee the chalet renovations and the construction of our new trail network. Knudsen Construction, the same company that built the chalet in 1969, has agreed to take on this project.† As a part of the chalet renovation, the upgrades will include: • Green initiatives to decrease our carbon

Remembering Peter Suijker It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of Peter Suijker. Peter and his wife Henny have been very active members of the Church in Batawa and Frankford, and well known throughout the community. Peter presented the Father Dunphy award each year at the Sacred Heart Graduation Ceremony and was an avid chess player attending each week with Seniors Unlimited. Peter always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. His funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 17 at 11:00am in Batawa. http://bit.ly/2vy1JDS
