John Fox,
President and CEO, Batawa Development Corporation

John Fox was welcomed to Batawa as the President and CEO of Batawa Development Corporation in 2011. 

John was formerly the Vice President, Development (Acting) and General Counsel, Development for Toronto Community Housing where he led a 14-person development group. In this role he was responsible for Toronto Community Housing's development mandate, including Regent Park and Lawrence Heights. John managed development risks and negotiated with private sector partners and the City of Toronto on joint ventures, construction contracts, and funding agreements among other things.

Prior to that, John spent seven years at McMillan LLP in the firm's Commercial Real Estate Group, and was a partner from 2001 to 2005. John acted as lead counsel on the purchase and development of the former Stelco site in Toronto, and the former GM plant north of Montreal. Called to the Bar in 1995, John received his Bachelor of Law at Dalhousie University (1993) and his Bachelor of Commerce at McGill University (1990). In 2007, John was recognized by Lexpert Magazine as one of Canada's top 40 lawyers under 40.

John has also been active in his community. He was a Board Member and Chair of the Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto from 1998 to 2005 - Canada's largest food bank. John is currently a director of the Laidlaw Foundation which offers funding to support young people directly to organize projects and iniatives that address issues that concern and inspire them. He is also a member of the Honourary Board of the Christian Resource Centre in Toronto.
